Xieng Khouan is a province in Northeastern Laos. it is one of the heaviest bombed places on Earth, with thousands of tons of unexploded ordinance that still takes casualties today…more than 35 years after the secret US CIA war ended. However, This song is about rebirth and hope and love for nature and life. Xieng Khouan is a traditional song covered by many Lao singers in the traditional mualao style where people dance in the customary lamvong. The singer on this version is a Lao wedding singer whose name I don’t know, but she was super cute if not a bit out of key. Cello and Violin courtesy of the Lao PDR Army Band guys. Regina Spektor’s “Folding Chair”. *A note on this version: This version is from a studio demo recorded a couple of years ago, and mirrors the version she played at live shows. This is not the same version of “Folding Chair” that is on Regina’s new album, “Far.” Although the lyrics are identical, the Far album version includes additional musical production in addition to the piano. You can download the studio demo version here from www.RespektOnline.com. Just search for the song name in the box. The Far version is of course available on the retail album.
