On a warm spring day there’s nothing like enjoying the outdoors on your Adirondack chair. In cooler climes, bundling up indoors on your La-Z-Boy is about as good as it gets. The Adirondack Chair
The Adirondack reclining chair has a relatively short history, whose birth came about just over a century ago, right here in the United States. Created by a creative man by the name of Thomas Lee, who had been vacationing in the Adirondack mountains of upstate New York with his family, Lee found the his seating room lacking. Originally intended for private use, one of Lee’s acquaintances, another carpenter named Harry Bunnell patented Lee’s idea and sold it successfully under his brand for the next few decades. After having perfected and selling the classic form with its signature wide armrests and long back, Bunnell began experimenting with design, and eventually the Adirondack reclining chair came into existence.
The Reclining Chair
Though these plush seats seem relocated to modern times, actually the basic idea of the reclining chair dates back much further, to the Napoleonic era some 200 years ago. Back in the 18th century, the basic design was surprisingly similar to a modern Adirondack reclining chair, i.e., allowing the user to sit straight up or back at an angle, with one’s feet suspended above the ground. Original prototypes of the chair were modeled closely after the chaise lounge, a popular piece of furniture of the times. Each had a side armrest with long, bench-like seat upon which the user can fully stretch his legs.
In the mid-nineteenth century, French innovators came out with a reclining camp bed for use by Napoleon III. This seat was similar in form to a daybed and could act as a chair, a bed or a chaise, as desired. Like most chaise lounges of the day, the camp bed was upholstered with padding on the seat and armrest and attached to a frame, this one in particular made of steel. But unlike many chaises, it was also meant to be portable and folded out into a bed.
After a few decades, intricate design of more moveable chairs emerged that were made from wood and also padded. Ironically they were kept in homes more as conversation pieces than actual functioning pieces of furniture.
What we consider the first recognizable form of the recliner can in fact be credited to American innovation. Cousins Shoemaker and Knabush patented a rough model for a wooden recliner in 1928. That in itself was no major feat, as the chair mostly resembled a reclining beach chair. However, this patent led to the beginnings of the iconic La-Z-Boy, and in 1930, the cousins went on to patent an upholstered chair with a mechanical movement device. And yet, it wasn’t for almost two more decade, in 1947, that the standard foot rests were added by a rival company.
Though the Adirondack reclining chair does not share this trait, many of today’s recliners are full motorized. Some of the power lift chairs are specifically designed to aid individuals with mobility problems while the bells and whistles of other models simply serve to make life that much easier for the everyman.

Since the umbrellas can be folded up, they are not much trouble to carry out to the beach. You can use a blanket or lounge chair under the beach umbrella, open up a book, and be ready for a great day at the beach. In case of a windy day, it may be best to keep the umbrella on its side, or just plant it a little deeper into the ground.
Beach umbrellas can be purchased at many different types of stores, such as, hardware stores, discount stores, or sporting goods stores. They can also be found online, and some websites may have discounted used umbrellas for sale. They are a very affordable item and can range in price from to depending on if they are on sale, or how large and how strong the fabric is.
Beach umbrellas have many other uses besides the beach. They are great for picnics, tailgating, concerts or just relaxing in the back yard. Wherever it is used, it is always a happy occasion.

I mean, offering things and then taking it back or complaining the whole way? For example–I have a friend (Sue) who does this a lot. She’ll offer you something, say a towel at the beach, and then she’ll be rude about actually giving it to you. I watched her do this. We had all gone to the beach, and she said she had an extra towel that we could use to lay on the sand. As it turned out, we didn’t need to use it because there were chairs there already. After we got out of the water, it started to get a little chilly. Another friend (already dried off and changed) used the extra (dry) towel to wrap around her since it was cold and her towel was wet.
Sue sees her, and says nothing at first. Then she says she doesn’t want to get sand on it (even though at first we were going to use it to lay on the sand). Then she said “well if you go play in the sun, you should get warm…” Then she said “that’s a brand new towel y’know. I haven’t used it yet.” And at that point, she just took the towel off our friend’s shoulders, folded it and put it in her bag. I thought it was pretty rude. Especially since she (Sue) wasn’t even using it. It just sat in the bag, and our friend was sitting there shivering for the next hour. Sue tends to do things like that. She’ll offer to do things, but then she’ll either complain about it when the time comes, or back out, or try to make you feel guilty about it. Why do you think she does that? Do you think that was rude of her?

No idea as to why she does it, but some people just like to complain. They want to be nice (and think that sharing makes them a nice person) but they really don’t want to be taken up on the offer. If they constantly do it, then they have a problem.

Whether you live by the ocean or just take a yearly vacation to the beach, there are some things you should keep in mind as you plan your trip. Most beaches don’t have a store nearby-and you won’t want to leave the surf to go find an item you could have brought from home. Review this list before your next trip, and you’ll be prepared!
1. Sunblock: The sun’s rays bounce off of the surface of the water and the sand, making it more likely that you will get burned. The ocean breeze can make it seem cooler than it is-you may not realize you are getting sunburned until it is too late. Make sure every member of the family wears sunblock, and reapply after swimming or splashing in the ocean.
2. Chairs: Bring a comfortable, low slung beach chair for each adult-kids will prefer sitting on a beach towel, but most grownups prefer using a chair. Look for a chair that folds compactly, or comes with a carry strap for easy handling.
3. Backpack: Pack a single backpack or bag with your essentials-if you keep everything together, you will only have one bag to keep track of. Avoid bringing your purse or wallet to the beach-lock them in your car instead.
4. Change of clothing: Bring a dry set of clothing for each member of your party. The ride home will be much more comfortable if you change into dry clothes-a wet, sandy swimsuit can be very itchy to wear, and make even a short car trip uncomfortable. Most beaches have restrooms and changing facilities and you will appreciate the fresh clothing after a busy day in the waves.
5. Wet washcloth in a baggie: Place a soaking wet washcloth in a ziplock baggie, and add it to your backpack. Someone will inevitably get sand, saltwater, or sunblock in their eyes and you can use a damp washcloth to ease the sting. You can also use this to wash hands before eating or drinking.
6. Sand Toys: A bucket and shovel are the bare minimum here. Look for a set that comes with a variety of shapes for molding sand, and have one of the kids carry it!
7. Snack or lunch: Depending on the beach you are going to, there may not be food facilities nearby. Most beaches in the Southeast are boardwalk-free, so you will have to either bring lunch, or leave the beach to find something to eat.
8. Bottled water: It is easy to become dehydrated while you frolic in the waves-partially freeze a few bottles of water and add them to your backpack, and you will have access to fresh, cool water without leaving the beach.
9. Shoes: Make sure every member of your party is wearing shoes. Sand can get extremely hot by mid afternoon, and you may have to walk a bit to find the perfect spot to set up. Wearing shoes (flipflops or crocs are ideal) also protects your feet from broken shells and other debris.
10.Waterproof camera: Pack an inexpensive, throwaway camera for your trip, and leave the pricey photo gear at home. Small particles of sand could work their way into your camera, and damage its delicate parts. Bring along a cheap waterproof version instead, and snap your photos worry-free.
One of the best things you can do for your trip is plan ahead. If you haven’t visited this particular beach before, call ahead and check on parking, restroom facilities, and other important information before you arrive. By planning ahead, and packing the essentials, you can focus on fun, and enjoy your day at the beach!

1) Speedos. Speedos cannot be worn by men under the following conditions:
1A) If when you look down, you can’t see the color of your Speedo, you probably should not be wearing one. No matter how manly your chest may be, if your belly exceeds your chest, it is not arousing to women to see your skimpy bathing suit.
1B) If your belly hangs down over the top of the Speedo, you should not be wearing one. No, women are not impressed that you can do finger acrobatics tying up your Speedo with only one hand, as the other hand is being used to lift up the fold of skin of your belly hanging mercilessly down over the top of your Speedo.
1C) If you have one of those penises that kind of stick straight out as opposed to hang down, you should not be wearing one. No, women do not get turned on by 1and a 1/2 inches of pure male passion raging from your loins.
1D) If you have a butt that is larger than most lawn chairs, skip the Speedo.

So ever since then it was just me, my dad and this shop, and I was perfectly content and happy with it, until the day after my 21st birthday, my dad who had been struggling with cancer for about a year then past away, and I was left alone, with no one or nothing, except the shop and our apartment which was above the shop. I mean, offering things and then taking it back or complaining the whole way? For example–I have a friend (Sue) who does this a lot. She’ll offer you something, say a towel at the beach, and then she’ll be rude about actually giving it to you. I watched her do this. We had all gone to the beach, and she said she had an extra towel that we could use to lay on the sand. As it turned out, we didn’t need to use it because there were chairs there already. After we got out of the water, it started to get a little chilly. Another friend (already dried off and changed) used the extra (dry) towel to wrap around her since it was cold and her towel was wet.
Sue sees her, and says nothing at first. Then she says she doesn’t want to get sand on it (even though at first we were going to use it to lay on the sand). Then she said “well if you go play in the sun, you should get warm…” Then she said “that’s a brand new towel y’know. I haven’t used it yet.” And at that point, she just took the towel off our friend’s shoulders, folded it and put it in her bag. I thought it was pretty rude. Especially since she (Sue) wasn’t even using it. It just sat in the bag, and our friend was sitting there shivering for the next hour. Sue tends to do things like that. She’ll offer to do things, but then she’ll either complain about it when the time comes, or back out, or try to make you feel guilty about it. Why do you think she does that? Do you think that was rude of her?

alright, it’s 12:30 and i can’t sleep. so i started writing. it is the first chapter-ish to a story that hasn’t been written yet. but i wrote this and i liked it, kinda. it just came out and i wanted to know what you thought.(:

I looked over my shoulder as the soft summer breeze tickled my face. The sun was setting, the sky ablaze with pinks and purples. I leaned back in my chair as the last rays of the summer sun warmed me. As the sun dipped below the horizon, I closed my eyes.
I couldn’t believe it was the last day before school. The warm summer days would be no more. Instead I would be sweating in a stuffy room that smelled like gym socks and B.O.
It’s not like I wasn’t excited for high school, I was. But the idea of leaving the beach was unfathomable. I had spent a majority of the summer lying on the sand, tanning, laughing, kissing.
Another thing I would miss. My short lived summer fling with the hottie from New Jersey visiting for the summer. He had been my first boyfriend, my first love. He was the sweetest, kindest boy I had met. He topped all of the boys at school. Not only was he a great person, he was also a great liar. The day he left I found him all over some girl on the beach. Turns out he had been dating us both at the same time, neither of us knew.
So maybe leaving the bitter taste of a broken heart behind in the sand was a good thing, but I’d rather leave my whole self there, to bake and burn and soak up the glorious summer.
“Addison!” I could hear my mother calling. I opened my eyes. It had gotten dark quickly. The only indication that I was still on the beach was the soft lapping of the waves on the shore. “Addison!” She yelled louder, impatient.
“I’m coming, mom!” I yelled back, scrambling to get up. I quickly folded up my chair and grabbed my bag. I looked over my shoulder, checking to see if my mother was watching. She wasn’t, so I walked over to the shore.
I stood close enough that the water just touched my toes, the feeling of the cool water was rejuvenating. I knew then that I could leave summer behind, because it would still be there. Like a photograph, when I come back it’ll be the same, untouched.
Although I knew this was false, I entertained the idea, seeing as it was the only thing I had. I blew a kiss to the waves and turned my back to the ocean. The sea spray tickled my back, sending tingles up my spine. I walked away slowly, trying to hold on to that feeling. The warm summer air embracing me, soft against my skin. The sand in between my toes, still hot from the sun. I grasped at it, refusing to lose grip. I tried to memorize the feeling, so I could come right back to this place during any cold North Eastern storm or boring history exam. As I walked back to the car I stuck my arms out to the side and spun around once, twice. This was what I loved. This was the feeling of summer.

Summer is here and the temperature is soaring. Many of us would have planned to spend a day or two at the beach (most probably the closest one, thanks to rising gas prices!!) to escape from the intense heat. There is nothing more enjoyable than having a day of fun at the beach especially if you live in very hot places like California, Arizona etc. When we go to the beach, either for just one day or for a week’s vacation, we need to be properly equipped from our clothing, sunscreen etc down to the accessories like beach chair, umbrellas etc that we take to relax.
For our family’s latest trip to the beautiful Myrtle beach, along with the usual items like sunscreen, beach towels, sand toys, hats etc, I took 2 other things which I found to be very useful. One was a very nice and convenient beach chair. It was one type of backpack beach chair with comfortable carrying straps. The beach chair was high-backed and has contoured pillow headrest which helped us to lounge comfortably or even take a short nap. The chair has four reclining positions, a cup holder and plenty of backpack storage space. Since it could be carried like a backpack, it was very convenient and I am sure that it could be used not only at the beach but also for camping, hiking etc. For the kids, we had pretty chairs in striking colors, fitted with canopies to protect them from the sun.
Along with these beach chairs, we also got a beach cart called the Rio wonder wheeler. It looks like a cart made of mesh fabric with steel frame. It is provided with wheels to make it portable and the handle is cushioned so that it would not hurt our hands while pushing. The wheeler has plenty of cargo space. We practically dumped all our items including the kids playthings like frisbees, footballs, a kite, the cooler with plenty of soft drinks, towels etc. When not in use, it could be easily folded and stored. This cart helped us to transport all the items from the car parking lot to the beach without losing a thing. Since I didn’t have to carry all the 20 or 25 items in my hands, the cart also helped me to take better care of my children in the heavy crowd.
Travel with kids could easily become strenuous if we don’t plan for it properly. But, due to good planning and helpful accessories, we had a day of fun at the beach.

Question by Hillary: Why do I have depressing dreams? What do they mean?
I tend to have really depressing dreams, and I’m not really sure why.
Awhile back, I committed suicide in a dream by swallowing all these pills, and my friends were there telling me to “hurry up and take them.”
Then recently I had a dream where me and character from a movie were stranded on top of a building in Dallas, but Dallas looked like a war zone, and we couldn’t get down, so when a cop car came near, the character told me to jump off the building to get the cop’s attention.
And the in the most vivid and recent one, my mother and I left my Dad in Virginia to go to California(even though we all live together in Dallas?) and we stopped at a really nice beach in Mississippi, but we were the only white people. Anyways, it started storming really bad, and this black woman with a baby on her shoulders grabbed my wrist and started pulling me along saying, “ah storms ah comin’!” anyways, my mom and I somehow got back to our car (which was a woody oldsmobile) and continued to to drive to california. (I woke up and went back to sleep) So now we’re in California, and I run up Point Dume, and at the top of this cliff there’s the guy I like, (and evidently in my dream we were going out) so anyways, he has a golden retriever that is evidently ours, and we’re hugging and stuff and I’m telling him that my Dad and I use to come here every time we went to california (which it true) then I got a text from my mom, and told him that I’d meet him here tomorrow. So when I come back there’s a building that looks exactly like the Parthenon in Athens on the cliff (which is weird because the cliff isnt that big) So, I get up there, and he isn’t there, so I look around and I see our dog playing in the water, and the guy is sitting in a fold up chair on a hill crying, and I think, I have to get our dog! So, I run out to get our dog, and notice the beach is completely eroded away. It’s like a pool, and the edge is black volcanic rocks. Anyways, somehow I got our dog and I ran up to check on the guy and I’m like, “What’s wrong?” and he won’t talk. then I look out to the sea, and start crying because of all the memories I had on that beach, and then we were hugging eachother and that’s all I can remember. It was horrible.
