Question by Renee: Folding Metal Chairs at Reception?
We found a nice banquet hall for our wedding reception. The only problem is they only provide folding beige metal chairs. We are on a budget, so renting chairs will be a stretch for us. I’m just wondering if anyone else used this type of chair for thier wedding. Or if you attending a wedding with these chairs before.

My family told me to relax b/c no one but me really cares. I just need your opinion on this.
awww it’s a way to get more money out of us. My sister called the hall for me. They provide folding white chairs for $ 2 each. Very sneaky…..

go there and see the room with the chairs set up for an actual wedding and see how visible they really are. they will lend a casual air to your event so if you are looking for a formal feel this is not it. because they are smaller than rental chairs. take a tape measure and measure them and then go to a rental place and do the same and see what the difference really is.

i have gone to many things with the white folding rental chairs. they seem fine. again, see what they actually look like when the room is set up, they may disappear and not be an issue.

Are you worried about comfort or appearance? The appearance part won’t be the issue you think it is, because the last thing people focus on at a wedding reception are the chairs!

The comfort issue is a bit different. I’d try sitting in one and eating at the table (if that applies) and take a few people along with you for a test drive. If you have older guests, or even if the chairs aren’t the right height for the table, I can see where this might be a wee problem.

They have a lot of chair decorations online, if you want to jazz it up a bit.

They also have just a standard veil type material with rhinestone detail at walmart.

A banquet hall should not expect to attract wedding business on Bingo chairs but you’ll get a kick out of my experience!

We rented a hall where the proprietors owned more than one location. We chose large round tables with white/red tablecloths and beautiful red velvet banquette chairs. We got a call the morning of the wedding to warn us that “our chairs had been used at the other location and were now locked in a hall over there, the Manager gone away with the keys. They were trying to contact him but could not guarantee they would be able to get them in time. Our hall would do it’s best but they might have to rent replacement chairs from a rental company….we ended up with the Bingo chairs!!

Honestly, they were cold, uncomfortable and because everything else was ornately decorated, with the sterile utilitarian chairs our pictures of the reception hall looked hideous. Also the video was ruined because all’s you hear throughout the reception is a cacophony of metal being scraped over the floor as people stood for toasts/dancing then pulling them back in when guests sat back down.

Speak to the hall and see if they have a discount with a specific rental company however I would advise you to squeeze the money out of somewhere for white wooden chairs, or at the very least rent chair covers. The hall gave us a $ 300 refund but I would have very much preferred my nice chairs!!!! (You would think they would have been smart enough to call a locksmith instead of giving me $ 300 for ruining everything)!!

I’m with your family – - so long as there are enough chairs to go around you will be fine! Nobody is going to care that their rear end is supported by a metal folding chair.

Beige chairs definitely look better than the brown or gray folding chairs. So that will help a bit. Then you can spice them up by adding decorations that fit in your budget. Can you afford chair covers? That will really make them look formal. But if your budget only allows for nice ribbon or bows, just add that. There’s really nothing you can do for comfort though. We all know that padded chairs will be more comfortable than metal chairs. But if you add some decorations, I think it will be fine.

Well, I understand how chairs can bother you; they bother lots of brides! Unfortunately there are only three solutions to this problem:
    1. Rent different chairs
    2. Rent or make chair covers
    3. Use the chairs as-is.

Remember that you are looking at a big empty room filled with these chairs right now, so they are like all you see! BUT, when you enter the room for the reception, your guests will probably already be sitting in most of them & so they won’t really be noticed very much!

    Renee….your family is exactly right!

YES, I have been to many wedding receptions with these types of chairs and no one cares or notices. Remember, you will (I assume) be having linens on the tables, centerpieces, etc. No one is going to notice the chairs. People will be sitting in them.
