How to economically cover/decorate folding chairs for a wedding reception?
Question by homemom: How to economically cover/decorate folding chairs for a wedding reception?
My daughter’s having a TX BBQ wedding reception (so it’ll definitely be more casual), and wishes to keep costs down. Suggestions on how to cover and/or decorate all the guests’ folding metal chairs economically would be greatly appreciated. There will probably be 100+ people in attendance, and I work full-time, so sewing custom covers is out of the question. Renting/buying the covers is quite costly, but they need SOMETHING on the chairs. I’m thinking there must be some attractive way of draping them with fabric and tying it, but don’t know how to proceed. The tables are rectangular and we’ll need to coordinate with table linens as well–suggestions there are likewise appreciated.

You could get white (or some color that coordinates with the other colors in the wedding, maybe do the wedding party chairs in white) and simply wrap it over the top of the chairs, bring it around the sides, gather it in the back and tie a big bow. For the wedding party, if you want to make them a little fancier you could add flowers to the bow. Good luck!

Since it’s a BBQ, you don’t have to get real fancy. About this time of year, both bleached & unbleached muslin goes on sale. A piece of that thrown over the chair & tied with a ribbon or fabric sash in one of the wedding colors would hold the cover in place.

Might want to check into this. I don’t think you could buy the fabric much cheaper than this.

I don’t mean to sound flippant, but personally, I think you’re going to more trouble than it’s worth. I realize it’s a wedding, but it is also a BBQ. There’s going to be slopping all over. I’d just put a gingham bow or whatever your choice around the backs of the chairs and be done with it. Like this

Use dish towels or cheap place mats….fold over the back of the chair and secure with several widths of ribbon sewn or glued to the ends and tied under the back of the chair. I also saw muslin done this same way and tied with gingham or burlap ribbon
